by Joe Shea AR Correspondent Bradenton, Fla. Dec. 24, 2012 WE CALL ON THE PRESIDENT TO HELP STOP THE VIOLENCE
Printable version of this story BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Newtown Massacre, as it is coming to be known, must be addressed by the highest levels of our government. What is important is that the focus not devolve solely onto gun control, but delve into and impact other underlying issues that have not been adequately addressed in the past, particularly of those video games that inspire violence and the need for greater mental health assistance to prevent violence. A reader, Patricia Slesinger, suggested this ad as one response, and we hope that other publications will use it freely to join our call for change. Here is the message: ![]() - Eliminate a large number of needless homicides by banning the sale of semi-automatic assault rifles and large-capacity ammo clips...
![]() - Police the videogame culture for practices that can inspire and ignite deadly violence against others...
![]() - Ask our politicians to do more to ensure that mentally ill young men and women are treated before they become violent...
![]() - Mr. President, on behalf of the 20 murdered children and 6 adults who died in the senseless Dec. 14 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., we implore you to act quickly to prevent more senseless gun and culturally-inspired violence, and to make it possible to humanely treat all our mentally ill.
