BRADENTON, Fla., Sept. 4, 2005, 5:08pm EDT -- The Associated Press reported minutes ago that five or six people in a group of eight men, all armed, were shot to death by police on a highway bridge over the Industrial Canal in the city, MSNBC reported.

CNN reported that New Orleans Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley told them that all eight men had been shot on the Danziger Bridge, which connects Lake Ponchartrain to New Orleans proper, and that "five or six" had died. The Industrial Canal connects the Mississippi River and the vast lake.

There were few details available minutes after the bulletin from the Associated Press.
